Shopify Android App Development

Native Android app development and Google Play submission for Shopify stores.

Shopify Android app development is the process of building a native Android app for a Shopify store, submitted through Google Play, rather than a webview wrapper around the mobile site. Native apps convert about 130 percent higher than mobile web (Venn Apps, 2025), and Android's broader global device range makes native performance work matter even more than on a single-manufacturer platform. Bonsify is a Shopify services company by FetchSky that builds native iOS and Android apps, PWAs, new Shopify stores, platform migrations, custom apps, and more.

What's included

  • Native Android development built around the store's catalog, checkout, and customer data, not a template
  • Google Play submission and review management
  • Android-specific push notification setup, including rich notifications and deep linking
  • Install-to-purchase attribution tracked from day one
  • Optional support retainer for Android updates as device fragmentation and OS versions change

Why native Android matters

Webview-based builders load the store's mobile site inside an Android app shell, which caps performance at mobile site speed. That gap matters more on Android than on iOS, since Android runs across a much wider range of devices and screen sizes, and a webview wrapper handles that variability worse than software built natively for the platform. Users spend 6.4 times longer per session in native apps than on mobile web (BuildFire), and push notifications, worth 20 to 26 percent open rates against 15 to 20 percent for email, run more reliably on native Android push infrastructure than through a wrapped web notification layer.

Google Play's review process is faster than Apple's in most cases, but it still requires proper metadata, permissions handling, and testing across device types. Bonsify manages that submission as part of the build.

How the process works

The engagement runs in four phases: a free audit to scope whether a native Android app is the right move, the build, launch including Google Play submission, and an optional support retainer for ongoing Android updates. Pricing is a fixed quote after the audit, with no success fees or GMV percentage, and the client owns the app and its Google Play listing throughout.

BachaParty (bachaaparty.com) and Highfy (highfy.pk) both run native Android apps built this way.

Beyond Android

Most Bonsify builds ship Android and iOS together, since customer bases typically split across both. The same team also builds iOS apps, PWAs, and handles the rest of the Shopify stack, store builds, migrations, and custom development, if the audit points there instead.

Getting started

The free audit reviews the store's actual mobile data and Android-specific traffic before recommending a build, scoped and quoted in days.

The free audit can scope an Android-only build if that matches the store's traffic, though most stores ship both platforms together.

Google Play's review is generally faster than Apple's, and Bonsify manages the submission and any required revisions as part of the launch phase.

Testing across common device types and screen sizes is part of the build process, and ongoing compatibility is covered under the optional support retainer.

Typically yes upfront, though the free audit provides a fixed, scoped quote rather than a guess.

The client owns the app and its Google Play listing throughout.

A few days, based on the store's real mobile conversion data.
